Drug Link Probed in Death of Son of Jersey Shore Mayor: Prosecutors

Authorities are investigating whether drugs played a role in the death of the son of the mayor of Seaside Heights.

Twenty-nine-year-old William Akers died Thursday.

A spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office tells the Asbury Park Press a man has been arrested on a drug distribution charge in connection with the investigation.

The spokesman says authorities are awaiting toxicology tests to determine the cause of death. Narcotics were found at the scene.

Authorities have charged 28-year-old Jashon Brinson of Lakewood with possession of heroin and possession of the drug with intent to distribute it.

In an obituary, the family said William Akers worked with his father Bill and his mother at the family's restaurant in Seaside Heights.
