A New Jersey mother who passed out while intoxicated and suffocated her toddler son is now headed to prison.

Antoinette King received a four-year prison term on Friday. She initially was indicted on manslaughter charges but pleaded guilty in July to child endangerment.

Burlington County prosecutors say King admitted drinking alcohol and taking painkillers before collapsing onto her 13-month-old son at their Lumberton home in January. Her mother discovered King lying on the boy and called 911.

Both King and her son were unresponsive when emergency responders arrived, though King was later revived. The boy was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later.

Authorities have said the 34-year-old King apparently was unaware her painkillers had been laced with a powerful synthetic opioid.
