New Jersey Lawmaker Calls for Renaming Route 1 After Obama

A New Jersey legislator wants to rename U.S. Route 1 Barack H. Obama Highway.

Democratic Assemblywoman Annette Quijano says she will formally introduce the legislation on Monday.

Under the resolution, Route 1 from Mercer County to Essex County would be ceremonially renamed after the president.

She says Obama was a "transformational" president who deserves to be honored with the renaming a busy state roadway.

The road would still be designated Route 1, but would have ceremonial signs posted along the highway.

The lawmaker says the signs would be paid for with private funds. A statement doesn't make clear who would pay for the signs.
