Boy Critical After Falling into Well

A 3-year-old boy is in critical condition after falling into a well Wednesday evening.

The well was in the backyard of a home at 3194 Black Horse Pike in Williamstown, Gloucester County.

The child was pulled out of the well by family, police said. The injured boy was being held by his mother when authorities arrived.

Michael Massaquoi, the boy's father, showed officers the enclosed, seven-foot deep hole, which was 40 feet from the home. Apparently the door to the enclosure, which was described as a doll house, was left unlocked, police said.

Massaquoi told police he saw his son open the door, but was unable to get to him before he fell. He then jumped into the hole to rescue his son.

The boy was medevaced to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, N.J. He is listed in critical condition.

Monroe Township Public Works has since constructed a secure structure around the well, sealing it for good.
