Woman Takes Selfies After Stealing Phone: Police

Police are searching for a woman who they say just couldn’t resist taking selfies after allegedly stealing another person’s phone.

Investigators say a woman dropped her phone while at Shoprite in Absecon, New Jersey back on November 23. The phone was found by a ShopRite employee who turned it into customer service.

After customer service announced the lost cellphone over the PA system, another woman falsely claimed the cellphone was hers, according to investigators.

Police say the suspect then took two selfies which they discovered through the phone’s tracking device. She then disabled the tracking device after taking the photos, according to investigators. Police later posted the photos of the suspect on their Facebook page and are asking anyone who recognizes her to give them a call at 609-641-0667.

“I'm told a proper selfie should be taken from an elevated angle down toward the photographer,” police wrote. “The kids say it's a much more flattering point of view. This sticky fingered selfie taker gets a pass because she obviously was not aware her photo was being taken. We're willing to forgive the photo faux pas but not the crime.”
