Officials from the New York Police Department who spoke to a Bucks County resident Sunday in hopes he videotaped the Times Square bomb threat suspect say the tourist's video has little value.
A surveillance video was released to the media showing a possible suspect shedding clothing in an alley and putting it in a bag, but investigators were hoping the Bucks County man got a better shot of the suspicious person. An NYPD spokesman said Monday that their preliminary review of the tourist's video has been no help to the investigation.
Though it's still under review, the Bucks County man's video will not be released to the public because it does not appear to match the time of the incident, the spokesman said.
The incident began Saturday night when police found a dark green SUV containing an amateur bomb parked on one of the prime blocks for Broadway shows. Thousands of tourists were cleared from the area for 10 hours. The bomb was dismantled, and no one was hurt.
The surveillance video that was released Sunday shows a white man in his 40s taking off one shirt, revealing another underneath.
New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says investigators found eight bags of an unknown substance in a gun locker that was in the smoking SUV. He says the substance “looks and feels” like fertilizer but tests are pending.
The commissioner also says there's no evidence that a Pakistani Taliban videotaped claim to the failed car bombing is valid.
