NJ Woman Faces Eviction for Failing to Remove American Flags

Dawn Paulus believes the Phillipsburg Housing Authority is infringing on her right to display the flag

A New Jersey woman is refusing to remove three small American flags from her balcony despite a threat of eviction from a public housing project.

Dawn Paulus believes the Phillipsburg Housing Authority is infringing on her right to display the flag.

Authority Executive Director Paul Rummerfield tells The Express-Times of Easton, Pa., newspaper that the lease agreement bars tenants from hanging anything on the balcony due to safety and discrimination concerns.

Rummerfield says Paulus will likely receive notice next week to remove the flags within 30 days before the agency would seek to have her evicted.

Paulus tells the newspaper she'll put her belongings in storage if she has to fight to get her $423-a-month apartment back.
