New Jersey Town Removes Veteran Memorial With Christian Cross

A New Jersey town will remove a veterans memorial depicting a Christian cross following a lawsuit that it excludes non-Christian veterans.

NJ.com reports the Roselle Park borough council voted unanimously on Thursday to dismantle the statue outside the Roselle Park Veterans Memorial Library.

The statue depicts a soldier kneeling over a grave marked by a cross. Mayor Carl Hokanson bought it in July using his own money and had it installed on the library's front lawn.

The American Humanist Association along with Councilwoman-at-large Charlene Storey and her husband Gregory Storey sued the borough saying the cross represents a government endorsement of religion.

A borough attorney says the town hasn't received the complaint.
