A New Jersey tax preparer has pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges.
The U.S. attorney's office says William Jones pleaded guilty Friday in federal court in Camden to a tax evasion charge.
Prosecutors say the 67-year-old Bridgeton resident admitted he knowingly failed to report more than $300,000 diverted from his tax preparation service for his personal use.
Jones, who ran the Bridgeton-based Your Financial Services and PLM Tax Services, admitted that from 2007 through 2010, he offered clients refund anticipation loans processed by Refund Advantage, for which Jones received fees and additional yearly incentives.
Prosecutors say Jones would have owed the government $90,266 in taxes had he reported the additional gross receipts on his income tax returns.
He faces up to five years in prison at his July 1 sentencing.
