NJ Politicians Goof It up for Mummers Parade

More than 70 N.J. public servants are planning to join Philadelphia's Mummer's Parade on New Year's Day.

This is no ordinary parade for a group of southern New Jersey politicians and public workers.

A troop of more than 70 public servants going by the Golden Schleppers is planning to join Philadelphia's Mummer's Parade on New Year's Day.

The group regularly entered the colorful comic parade in the 1990s, but has not marched for more than a decade.

This time, they tell The Philadelphia Inquirer they're dressing as octopi for the theme "Octopi Broad Street," a play on the Occupy Wall Street protests.

The group, including State Sen. Jim Beach and Camden County Freeholder Jeff Nash, has been practicing at the Camden County Democratic Club Headquarters.

They say they're using the event to raise money for two food banks.
