NJ Police Officer Killed in Off-Duty Accident

Police are asking for anyone with information on the accident that killed a 6-year Pemberton Township Police veteran to please contact them

A Pemberton Township Police officer dies in an early morning car crash while off duty Sunday, police say. He was 28.

Officer Shawn Kitson, a six-year veteran of the police force, died of his injuries after his car crashed on Pemberton Browns Mills Road, near Four Mile Road at 6:17 a.m. Sunday.

Kitson’s car was the only vehicle involved in the accident.

Kitson was brought to Lourdes Hospital but the extensive trauma to his head made it impossible to revive him, police say.

The details of the crash are still under investigation, police say.

In September 2010, Kitson volunteered to ride his bike school to school with Ronald McDonald, firefighters and other police officers as part of the 2010 Tour de Fitness in Pemberton Township School District, according to McDonald’s of Philly Twitter page.

Police are asking that anyone with any information related to this incident to please contact the Pemberton Township Police, Investigations Division at 894-3360 or the Confidential Tip Line at 894-3352.
