NJ Parents Fight New Bussing Policy

Elementary kids living 2-miles or less from school won't get a bus ride

Parents in Washington Township, N.J. have a message for the school board -- they want their busses back.

When classes start next month, busses will no longer pick up elementary students who live within 2-miles of their school.

In the past, it was just kids living within 1-mile.

At a school board meeting Tuesday night, parents made a last ditch effort to urge members to reconsider the policy.

They're worried about safety, saying the walk to school is too far and dangerous for young kids.

"It's not safe, I don't care where you live," Monica Burke said. "There's people out there that'll do sick things to children and they're everywhere."

The school board says because of tight budgets, something had to give and it didn't want to cut the children's education.
