NJ Man Stuck in Tree While Rescuing Pet Bird

The man used a ladder to climb 60 feet to reach his beloved pet, but then he became stuck

Firefighters came to the rescue of a southern New Jersey man who became stuck in a tree while trying to reach his pet bird.

Dave Lovell tells the Courier-Post his scarlet macaw had escaped his home late Thursday night. After spending most of Friday looking for the bird, Lovell saw it at the top of the tree around 6:10 p.m.

The Cherry Hill man used a ladder to get in the tree and climbed another 60 feet to reach his feathered friend. But when Lovell couldn't get down and had to cling to some branches, neighbors called 911.

Firefighters responded and, after cutting dozens of branches, were able to get Lovell and the bird down safely.

Lovell was bitten by the bird during the rescue, but wasn't seriously injured.
