NJ Man Beats Mom, Takes Her Phone: Cops

Police say the 29-year-old man took his mom's cell phone after the beating so she couldn't call for help

A New Jersey man is accused of badly beating his mother, then taking her cellphone so she could not call police.

Authorities tell the Burlington County Times that 29-year-old Gary Ritman beat his mom Tuesday morning, leaving her with head trauma, broken ribs and other injuries they did not disclose.

She was found lying down and bleeding in her Burlington City home after someone else called for help. She was taken to the trauma center at Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

Police say Ritman was trying to sneak out of a window when police arrived at 8 a.m.

He's charged with aggravated assault and endangering an injured victim.

He's being held on bail of $50,000.
