NJ Man Accused of Driving Cross County for Sex With Teen

A New Jersey man is accused of driving from New Jersey to Albuquerque, N.M., to pick up a 14-year-old girl with the intent of engaging in sexual activity.

The Southwest Times Record reports that 26-old Robert Joseph Butler, of Clayton, N.J., has been charged in federal court in Fort Smith with transporting a minor with the intent to engage in sexual activity.

Authorities say the two had traveled from New Mexico through Texas and Oklahoma and were camping in eastern Arkansas when they were located. A probable cause affidavit says both acknowledged they engaged in sexual acts in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Butler faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. A lawyer for Butler didn't immediately respond to an email for comment.
