NJ Dems “Take the Gloves Off” for 2nd Debate

4 Dems face off last time before NJ Senate primary

The four Democrats seeking their party's nomination in a special U.S. Senate election are expected to face off for the final time in a debate.

Thursday night's forum in Newark will be the second time all four hopefuls are to debate during the campaign to complete the term of the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

One of the candidates, Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver, says it will be a “take-the-gloves off environment,” a contrast to a cordial forum held Monday.

The other candidates are Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Reps. Rush Holt and Frank Pallone.

The debate will air at 7 p.m. on News 12 New Jersey and WBGO-FM.

Booker seemingly holds an insurmountable lead on all his challengers, according to a Quinnipiac University survey released Wednesday. But that won’t stop fellow candidates from putting up a fight.

Primary voting is Tuesday. Alieta Eck and Steve Lonegan are seeking the Republican nomination to run in the Oct. 16 special general election.
