NJ Athletic Director Staying on Suspension After Shooting

Woman allegedly shot up her husband's truck after a fight

A New Jersey educator may lose her job after shooting at her husband's truck during an argument.

Donna Covely, 55, was charged with making terroristic threats last Friday after allegedly grabbing her husband's 9-mm gun and shooting at his truck, police say.

No one was inside the truck at the time as it sat parked in front of the couple's home in the Sewell section of Mantua Township, N.J.

Covely, who serves as the athletic director and vice principal at Audubon High School, was placed on paid suspension by the Audubon School District following her arrest.

At a meeting Wednesday night, district officials voted to keep the woman on that suspension, rather than terminating her, pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.

"As you can imagine an athletic director is pretty visible in the community and I think people were very concerned as we all were to hear about what happened," Audubon Public Schools Superintendent Don Borden said.

Covely was released from jail on her own recognizance as police continue their investigation.
