NJ Archbishop Seeks Home for Alleged Former Nazi

A New Jersey-based archbishop is helping a man convicted in Germany of aiding in the murders of more than 28,000 people at a Nazi death camp.

Archbishop Antony of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Somerset, N.J., is assisting in the search for a home for John Demjanjuk (dehm-YAHN'-yuk). Antony says he hopes the 91-year-old Demjanjuk will be able to serve his parole with his family in the United States or return here while his conviction is being appealed.

A German court convicted the retired auto worker Thursday of being an accessory to the murders as a low-level Nazi guard at Poland's Sobibor death camp during World War II.

The Ukraine-born Demjanjuk lost his U.S. citizenship and has been in custody in Germany since his deportation two years ago.
