NASA Rocket Launch Could Be Visible in Philly

For one night, people in Pennsylvania won't have to travel to Florida to see a NASA rocket launch.

The robotic spacecraft LADEE, will fly to the moon, starting from a launch on Virginia's Eastern Shore that's scheduled for 11:27 p.m. Friday.

NASA says the launch should be visible from much of the East Coast, including the Philadelphia and South Jersey region.

LADEE, short for Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer, will be the first moonshot ever from Virginia in 54 years of lunar missions. The project aims to explore the moon's thin atmosphere and rough dust.

The National Weather Service says mostly clear skies are expected in Philadelphia tonight, which should aid rocket-viewers.
