Motorcycle Ride Honors Slain Police Officer

Friends and family gathered Monday night to watch a large procession of motorcycles pay tribute to fallen Police Officer Brad Fox.

“It’s great,” said Nancy Becker of Plymouth Township. “The fact that this small community can turn out and do this for the officer, for his family and for the police department is a great thing.”

The riders began at the Philadelphia Police Academy and drove to the Plymouth Township Police Station. While many of those who attended the tribute never met Officer Fox, they say they still wanted to show their support for a man who spent seven years of his life protecting them.

“I think we all feel very touched and we want to support Officer Fox’s family,” said Holly Dender.

“He was helping us and doing a lot for us,” said Cody Carmint.

Officer Fox was shot in the head last Thursday while investigating a hit and run accident near Conshohocken Road and Ernest Station Road. Investigators say the suspect, Andrew Thomas, ambushed the officer and then turned the gun on himself.

Earlier on Monday, Officer Fox’s family, including his widow, who is three months pregnant, got a tour of the police department as well as the officer’s cruiser.

“We’re getting our strength from them,” said Plymouth Township Police Chief Joseph Laurence.

“I know it’s incredibly hard for her,” said Peg Walsh. “I’m thinking of her right now. I hope everything goes well with her, I truly do.”

The Fox family did not speak publicly but thanked the community for their support.

A public viewing for Fox will take place Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Epiphany of Our Lord RC Church on 3050 Walton Road in Plymouth Meeting.

On Wednesday, another viewing will take place at Epiphany from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a mass at 11 a.m. Officer Fox will then be buried at Washington Crossing Veterans Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
