Mother of Bus Crash Victim: “It Was Horrendous”

Lori Morrow says kids were thrown into the aisles when a dump truck hit their school bus this morning in Chesterfield, Burlington County, New Jersey.

The mother of one of the victims in this morning's fatal school bus crash in Chesterfield, Burlington County, New Jersey, says "it was horrible." An 11-year-old triplet died in the crash. Her two sisters were also on the bus. In all, 17 students were hurt, three of them critically.

Lori Morrow talked to NBC10's Lu Ann Cahn as she was on her way back to the hospital to be with her daughter, who was on the bus when it got hit by a dump truck less than a mile away from Chesterfield Elementary.

"She saw the dump truck coming at the bus and it didn't look like it was going to stop and she saw it smash right into the bus," Morrow says. "It was a couple of seats above her where it smashed into the bus. It was horrendous."

The bus was carring about two dozen K-6th graders. The crash happened at the intersection of CR 528 and Old York Road. The dump truck hit the back of the bus on the driver's side, according to Chesterfield Police Chief Kyle Wilson.

"All the kids got thrown into the aisles. They had their seat betls on apparently, but they didn't hold. It was horrible," Morrow says. Morrow was hoping to take her daughter home later today.

"She's much better. She's just bruised really badly, but thank God she's okay."

New Jersey requires school buses to have lap seat belts and the state's school bus inspection system is one of the most rigorous in the country, according to the state's Motor Vehicle Commission
