Motel Sprinkler System Breaks Soaking Guest Rooms

A sprinkler system malfunctioned this morning in an area motel soaking some guest rooms.

The pipe broke inside the Howard Johnson Inn along N Black Horse Pike in Blackwood, N.J. around 3 a.m. Thursday, according to Camden County dispatchers.

Some rooms got wet from leaking water. Power was cut to that part of the building to stop the flow of water.

Any guests in rooms affected were moved to other rooms in the complex that weren't involved in the original pipe problems.

It wasn’t clear if single-digit temperatures or something else caused the sprinklers to malfunction. Local firefighters and police officers responded to the scene and appeared to be checking out rooms at the motel.
