2nd Mosquito-Fighting Helicopter Grounded in Cape May

Mosquitoes have gained another edge in Cape May County.

The county's second mosquito control helicopter was grounded this week after its pilot found a potential rotor defect.

Mosquito Control Director Peter Bosak tells the Press of Atlantic City that repairs could take three to four weeks.

Bosak said that workers will do what they can from the ground, but that there may be an uptick in bites this spring because they'll be unable to get to some of the places that the helicopter was used for.

The county's first mosquito control helicopter was badly damaged after it crashed into a backyard last August. The helicopter's pilot was not hurt, but a passenger suffered minor injuries.

The National Transportation Safety Board says it is testing parts to see what caused that malfunction.
