Mom Tries to Burn Down House With Daughter Inside: Police

An Egg Harbor Township woman was arrested on Tuesday after she allegedly tried to burn down her own home while her daughter was inside.

On Tuesday, at 12:24 a.m., police and firefighters responded to a home on Windwood Drive in the Cardiff section of the town. When they arrived they discovered a burning house with two people still inside. Firefighters immediately helped a 12-year-old girl and 41-year-old Yeser Bekete out of the home. Neither the girl nor Bekete were hurt and firefighters were able to control the blaze.

During their investigation, police were led to the homeowner and the mother of the 12-year-old girl, 43-year-old Amy Ochetto. Investigators say Ochetto used a flammable liquid to set her own house on fire while her daughter and Bekete were inside.

Ochetto was arrested and charged with aggravated arson, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Her bail was set at $100,000 cash. She was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
