Mom Stabs Son, Sets House on Fire: Cops

Police claim a Delaware County woman stabbed her 10-year-old son, set two fires inside her home and attempted to slice herself with a knife.

A mother and her 10-year-old son are in the hospital after police say the woman stabbed the boy and set her Delaware County home on fire.

It happened Friday shortly before 5 p.m. on Baltimore Avenue in Prospect Park.

Investigators say a small boy ran to a neighbor’s house with a knife wound on his thigh and called 9-11.

When police arrived, they discovered the home was locked. They forced their way inside and claim they spotted signs of a fire, light smoke and a gasoline can in the kitchen of the first floor.

Police then went to the second floor of the home where they found the boy's mother, Nora Doyle, by herself in a bedroom.

Police say Doyle was attempting to slice her forearm. They also say she had ignited a small fire inside the room which fire crews were eventually able to control.

Police handcuffed the woman and removed her from the home. She was taken to Fitzgerald Mercy with burn injuries. Her condition is unknown.

After further investigation, police say Doyle was the one who stabbed her son. The boy was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center where police say he is "doing okay."

A criminal complaint will be completed for Doyle's arrest, according to investigators.
