A Pittsburgh woman has been jailed on charges that she smeared diaper waste on her infant son to make the hospitalized boy sick -- apparently in order to draw attention and receive an exhaustive medical screening for the boy.
Online court records don't list an attorney for 38-year-old Lauren Buzard, who faces a preliminary hearing Wednesday on charges including child endangerment.
WPXI-TV reports doctors at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC put a surveillance camera in the boy's room after Buzard repeatedly brought him to the hospital.
Police say the cameras caught Buzard taking dirty linen out of a hamper, smearing something on the child's diaper and then onto his nasal feeding tube and face. Police say Buzard then claimed the boy had vomited.
Authorities jailed her after those incidents Thursday.
