Mom Feeds Girl Chicken Heart During Ritual: Cops

A Pennsylvania woman has pleaded guilty to child neglect and cruelty charges stemming from a bloody religious ritual in New Jersey.

Authorities say Yenitza Colichon made her 7-year-old daughter watch an initiation rite in Paterson that included a chicken sacrifice and feeding the girl its heart.

The Record newspaper reports prosecutors said the Jamesburg, Pa., resident wanted to protect her daughter in the Palo Mayombe religion before the 33-year-old shipped out to begin Army basic training in 2007.

The religion originated in central Africa.

The girl told a teacher that she was having nightmares and child welfare officials were contacted.

Colichon faces up to five years' probation when she's sentenced in June.
