Mom Gives Birth While High on Heroin, Cocaine

A northeastern Pennsylvania woman high on drugs during labor has been sentenced to a two-year drug treatment program that includes seven months incarceration.

The Scranton Times-Tribune reports that 34-year-old Jennifer Pasco told a judge Wednesday she is now "clean and sober" and feeling great.

Police say Pasco was high and had heroin, cocaine and marijuana in her system when they arrested her on an outstanding prostitution charge in August 2010. She was nine months pregnant, and delivered a baby girl later that day.

Lackawanna County Judge Michael Barrasse accepted Pasco into the drug-treatment program. She must also serve six years of probation.

It was not immediately clear who has custody of the baby.
