Driver Charged in Deadly Delaware County Crash

Police track down driver after he flees deadly crash scene

A crash involving a work truck at a Trainer, Delaware County mobile home community left a man in his 70s dead, a home damaged and the alleged driver in custody following a police search.

The deadly hit-and-run crash happened along the 4300 block of W 9th Street in the Parkview Mobile Home Park around 7:15 p.m., according to dispatchers.

Neighbors say that the victim -- who died at the scene -- and two other men were sitting in front of a home when another man -- identified by neighbors as a handyman at the complex -- jumped into a utility truck and crashed into the group.

"The victim was actually pushed under the trailer," Trainer Borough Police Chief Fran Priscopo said.

The other two people in front of the home weren't injured.

Police didn't identify the victim but neighbors tell NBC10's Claudia Rivero that the man in his 70s was a Vietnam War veteran.

The crash did significant damage to the mobile home of another man.

Authorities said that police with K-9s searched nearby areas for the alleged driver who fled the scene on foot. After about 45 minutes they tracked down the suspect in nearby woods.

Ed Shaw was charged with Murder of the Third Degree, Homicide By Vehicle While Driving Under the Influence, Reckless Driving, and a host of other charges.

"He actually contacted a friend who let us know where he was and he told us he wanted to surrender," Priscopo said.

Police withheld the victim's name pending family notification.
