Fight Over Van Leads to Homicide: Witnesses

Police called to a murder scene late last night are trying to figure out if a minivan found burning nearby is the root of the killing.

Officers found Terrell Jackson, 33, shot in the head, dead, on the 1700 block of S 7th Street in Camden, N.J. shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday.

Early Friday morning, the medical examiner on the scene said the shooting appeared stem from an argument over a vehicle between Jackson and another man.

About an hour later, police were called to the 300 block of Liberty Street -- about a mile from the shooting scene -- for the report of a vehicle fire.

The owner of the burning van told officers that his van was stolen and torched, according to police.

Witnesses at the scene who didn’t want to go on camera told NBC10’s Claudia Rivero that they saw the van’s owner arguing with the homicide victim over the van before the shooting. The root of the argument had something to do with the victim having borrowed the van, witnesses said.

Police wouldn’t confirm the argument over the van and neither man was identified.
