Mom, Daughter Stabbed in Home, Mom Dies

One of two deadly incidents overnight in local county

A mother was killed and her daughter hurt in a stabbing that was one of two deadly incidents in the same county overnight.

Suzanne Durocher, 50, died inside her home on the 100 block of Prospect Street in Merchantville, Camden County, N.J. after being stabbed around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. It is believed to be the town's first homicide in years.

Camden County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Jason Laughlin says that a man allegedly entered the home and began the attack as Durocher tried to get him to leave.

According to sources close to the investigation, Durocher was stabbed by her daughter's ex-boyfriend who also stabbed the daughter, later identified as Kristen Durocher, 22.

Kristen Durocher was rushed to Cooper University Hospital where she remained in stable condition Thursday morning, according to authorities.

A neighbor told NBC10 that she came to his door.

"She looked like she was in shock, she had some obvious wounds to her arms," said Andrew Kuppler. "She just said she was attacked, she was hurt, her mom was also hurt and that she needed help."

Gilbert Villanueva, 26, was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, burglary and related counts after he arrived at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital with knife wounds on his hands that seemed suspicious to hospital staff, according to Laughlin.

Villanueva dated the younger Durocher, sources said.

Police, who investigated the scene for hours. Neighbors told NBC10 that Durocher was a wonderful woman.

Also late Wednesday, police blocked off more than a two-block radius in Camden, N.J. shortly before midnight after someone shot and killed an unidentified man at Sayres Avenue and Pershing Street -- the new Whitman Park and New Camden Cemetery.

Following the incident, Camden County Police blocked off the large radius as they investigated.

Police didn’t immediately reveal a motive or any information on suspects.
