Mayor Michael Nutter on ‘Meet the Press': Killings Hurt Citizen Trust of Police

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter says action is needed to bolster public trust in the police in the aftermath of the killings of two unarmed black men by white police officers.

Nutter and Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey appeared Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Nutter says the shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, and a chokehold death in New York City left many citizens and police officers afraid of each other.

Ramsey, whom President Barack Obama recently named as co-chair of a task force that is to recommend ways to rebuild public trust, says he's troubled that so many people view the justice system as unfair.

In a related development, a Philadelphia clergy is planning a "die-in" protest following Sunday's football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Seattle Seahawks.
