Superstorm Sandy Home Burglarized

A home affected by Superstorm Sandy was the target of theft earlier this week.

A Brick Township man arrived home at 10:45 p.m. Monday night to discover "an intruder in his home, who had just fled out the back door," according to a Brick Township Police Department news release.

Robert Kovacs, 22, of Toms River, was arrested for burglary of the Toronto Drive home in Brick Township late Monday evening after the victim gave a description of Kovacs' vehicle to police.

Kovacs was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and possession of burglar's tools with bail set at $30,000 with no 10 percent option. He was taken to the Ocean County Jail. A female passenger and her baby were taken to police headquarters for further investigation.

The news release stated as a result of detective work, "Kovacs is responsible for approximately 10-12 Burglaries of homes in recent weeks.  All of the homes that were victim to Kovacs are located in areas of town that were affected by Superstorm Sandy."
