A man is dead after a shooting in Delaware County.
The incident happened Friday night before midnight on 9th Street near 23rd Street in Chester.
Authorities say that police shot a 21-year-old man. He was taken to the Crozer-Chester Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
According to authorities, they were performing a pedestrian stop when the shooting occured.
Police said during the stop, the pedestrian, a black male, ran away, causing officers to give chase. The pedestrian allegedly pulled a gun and fired, prompting police to return fire.
A witness claims that police shot the man in the back while he ran away. That claim has not been confirmed with police.
Police said they recovered a firearm at the scene which was collected for evidence. No officers were injured during the incident.
The investigation continues.
