Police Shoot Gunman During Baby Shower: Cops

A man is fighting for his life after an overnight shooting in the Olney section of the city.

A man is in the hospital after he was shot by a police officer in the Olney section of the city.

It happened Saturday around 1 a.m. on 2nd and Nedro Street. Witnesses tell NBC10 the shooting stemmed from an argument that occurred at a baby shower. They say a car pulled up, words were exchanged and then two men began to fight.

“After I saw the guy hit the other guy, I told them, ‘let’s go, it’s time to go,’” said a woman who did not want to be identified. “We started walking off. As we walked down the driveway that’s when we heard the gunshots so I don’t know who shot who. I’m telling you what I heard, not what I saw.”

When police arrived at the scene, they say they saw Vanna Sok, 25, shooting at a red SUV traveling westbound on Nedro. When an officer got out of the car, Sok allegedly ran towards him and pointed his gun. Police say Sok refused to drop the weapon after the officer told him to do so. The officer then fired one shot which struck Sok in the head, according to investigators.

Sok was taken to Einstein Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. No one else was injured in the incident, according to investigators.

Police also say another male suspect connected to the shooting is now in custody. The man surrended to police after a barricade situation on the 4000 block of Deveraux Avenue, according to  investigators.
