A south-central Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to life without parole for the murder of a Maryland woman more than three years ago.
Fifty-year-old Jeffrey Miles of State Line pleaded guilty last month in Franklin County in the stabbing death of 29-year-old Kristy Hoke of Hagerstown, Md., whose body was found in a remote area of Waynesboro in April 2010.
President Judge Douglas Herman announced Thursday that he was convicting Miles of first-degree rather than second- or third-degree murder.
Miles testified Wednesday that he loved Hoke and never intended to kill her, but he had smoked crack for days on end prior to the stabbing.
He is still awaiting trial for the 1995 killing of 17-year-old Angie Daley of Waynesboro, whose remains were found during the investigation into Hoke's death.
