Man Shot in the Head While Walking Home

A man walking home from a local corner store was left fighting for his life after being shot in the Oxford Circle section of Philadelphia.

Police say the man was walking home near Magee and Castor Avenues when an unidentified gunman opened fire around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Residents spotted the man on the sidewalk in the mostly residential neighborhood and called 911 around 11 p.m.

"Upon firefighters' arrival they released that this 25-year-old male was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The victim was unconscious as he was rushed to Aria-Torresdale Hospital in "extremely critical condition," according to Small.

Police investigated and found a single spent shell casing at the scene.

Police didn't immediately have a motive or a description of any suspects in the case.
