Man Shot by Police Inside Store

A man is fighting for his life after investigators say he was shot by police inside a mini market in the Parkside section of the city.

Officials say police officers received a 911 call reporting that a man with a gun was walking on Jefferson and Lindenwood streets. When police arrived, they say they spotted a man who matched the description of the suspect running inside a mini market.

The officers went inside the store, found the man and began to frisk him, according to investigators. The man then allegedly began to struggle with the officers. Investigators say he then punched an officer in the face and began to reach for his gun.

Officials say an officer then shot the man in the stomach. The unidentified man was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he is in critical condition. None of the officers involved in the scuffle were seriously injured.
