Philadelphia police are looking for a suspect who fled after shooting a 23-year-old man near the City Hall building.
The gunfire rang out just before 3 a.m. Thursday on the sidewalk outside the Wells Fargo Bank on 100 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia Police Department Chief Inspector Scott Small said. When officers responded to the numerous 911 calls, they found the victim bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to the bicep.
The victim told police he was walking down Broad Street when suddenly he heard a bang and then realized he had been shot. The man was rushed to Jefferson University Hospital, where he was undergoing a CAT scan and remained in stable condition, Small said.
Police have not determined a motive for the shooting.
"Based on ballistic evidence, we know at least three shots were fired from a small, semiautomatic weapon," Small said, adding that a bullet struck the nearby bank, Small said.
The suspect is described as man in his 20s with short hair and standing around 5 feet, 11 inches tall. He was wearing a white t-shirt, white sneakers and jean shorts, Small said.
He fled south on Broad Street and turned left on Walnut Street, headed east, the chief inspector said.

Police are looking through surveillance video from surrounding buildings for clues. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department.
