Man on Mountain Bike Gunned Down

A man riding his bike was struck down by gunfire overnight.

The man was riding near the intersection of Rhawn and Walker Streets in the Holmesburg section of Northeast Philadelphia around 2:30 a.m. when someone opened fire.

Neighbors heard the gunshots and called not only Philadelphia Police but also the NBC10 newsroom.

Officers rushed to the scene to find the unidentified man on the corner suffering from a gunshot wound to the head – his legs still wrapped around his mountain bike. Medics pronounced him dead a short time later.

“We did find two spent shell casings within feet of the victim’s body,” said Chief Inspector School Small.

Small said police didn’t immediately have a motive or description of the shooter. It wasn’t clear how the shooter got away from the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Philadelphia Police.
