Man Shoots Cop, Student at Movie Theatre

Off-duty cop tried to stop gunman

Philadelphia police are searching for the person responsible for shooting an off-duty police officer and a Drexel student at a University City movie theatre Friday night.

It happened around 7 p.m. at the Bridge movie theater at 40th & Walnut when a man walked into the lobby and demanded money.

When he tried to get away he came face-to-face with an off-duty Pennsylvania State Capitol police officer. That’s when eyewitnesses said the chaos began.

“All of the sudden I heard five gunshots, bam! bam!” I didn’t even realize what was happening and then I got pushed to the ground,” said Gabriella Yudenich.

Investigators said the officer was hit in the shoulder and a 20-year-old Drexel student was hit in the leg. Both were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and are listed in critical condition.

Police are still searching for the gunman who got a away with an undisclosed amount of money.
