Man Sentenced for Beating Infant Daughter to Death

A northern New Jersey man who fatally beat his 10-month-old daughter has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Curtis White must serve 8 years of the term imposed Friday before he becomes eligible for parole. The 27-year-old Roselle man pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a plea bargain with Union County prosecutors.

Authorities said White called police last July when his daughter stopped breathing, and she was pronounced dead at a hospital.

An autopsy determined the girl's liver was severed by blunt force and she had numerous fractures. White's wife said he had struck the child in the back, and authorities said it appeared the child had been beaten on more than one occasion.

White's wife pleaded guilty to child endangerment and was sentenced to three years probation.
