Man Sent to Prison for Transporting Prostitutes Across State Lines

A Colorado man has been sentenced to 51 months in prison for his role in an operation that transported women across state lines to work as prostitutes.

James Roy Smith had pleaded guilty to conspiracy and to transporting a victim across state lines to work in prostitution.

The U.S. attorney's office says the 36-year-old Lakewood, Colorado resident conspired to run a prostitution business in New Jersey, New Mexico, Nebraska and Pennsylvania. The women would be transported by air or via a Cadillac Escalade registered to Smith's uncle.

Authorities say the business operated in 2009 and 2010.

Smith admitted he conspired to take six women from New Jersey to Philadelphia and transported one victim between the two states to work as a prostitute.
