A man has avoided the chance of a death sentence by pleading no contest to two counts of first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of an elderly eastern Pennsylvania woman and her mentally disabled daughter.
After the entering the pleas Tuesday in Lehigh County Court, 29-year-old Brandin Kasick was sentenced by a judge to two life sentences without the possibility of parole.
Kasick has been held without bail since the March 2011 slayings of 82-year-old Althea Walbert and her 59-year-old daughter Jeannette in their Alburtis home.
Investigators claim Kasick killed the women and stole thousands of dollars from the home, where he had worked for a carpet cleaning company. Prosecutors said DNA linked him to the slayings.
Kasick told the judge he didn't kill the women.
