Man Admits to Pushing Girlfriend Down Stairs, Killing Her

Shane Alan Sigman told the judge he has an alcohol problem and he takes depression medication.

A Pennsylvania man has pleaded guilty to third-degree murder after prosecutors say he caused his live-in girlfriend's death by pushing her down a stairwell.

The Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era reports 34-year-old Providence Township resident Shane Alan Sigman pleaded guilty Monday in the Aug. 1 death of 42-year-old Virginia Cole.

Lancaster County Judge James Cullen told Sigman he faces a maximum 20-to-40-year prison term when he is sentenced in September.

Sigman told the judge he has an alcohol problem and takes depression medication. He also pleaded guilty to simple assault for kicking Cole's 12-year-old daughter in the face on the same night.

Sigman and his attorney, Robert Reese, declined comment after the hearing, as did county prosecutors.
