Man Murdered in Busy Jiffy Lube Parking Lot

Heated argument leads to gunfire

An employee of a Port Richmond Jiffy Lube was shot and killed in the parking lot near a busy intersection Wednesday, according to Philadelphia Police.

Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC10 the 42-year-old man was shot in the face and chest at 5:35 p.m., as he was driving a customer's car into a service bay at the Jiffy Lube along the 3600 block of Aramingo Avenue.

Several people witnessed the shooting, according to Small.

"We know that just prior to the shooting, that led to a homicide, there was an argument between the victim and the shooter," Small told NBC10. "We're getting information that it was a heated argument -- that's what the witnesses told us. We don't know what the argument was over. We don't believe this was a robbery at this point."

Small says the shooter was spotted running south in the 3500 block of Aramingo Avenue and west on Venango. There are several businesses in the area with surveillance cameras and Small said at least some of them caught the encounter on tape. Those tapes are being reviewed by investigators.

"To shoot somebody in broad daylight at a busy location where there's pedestrian traffic, heavy vehicular traffic, customers, employees, just goes to show how brazen some of these individuals are," said Small.
