An Allentown man was accused of putting a 6-year-old girl's hand on a stove, giving her second-degree burns.

Allentown police told lehighvalleylive.com that Jose Velazquez, 32, was charged with child endangerment and simple assault.

Last month, Velazquez told police that he burned the girl's hand on the stove to "teach her a lesson about not playing with the stove."

A case of child abuse was reported in October, according to police. The girl told a child interview specialist that Velazquez put her hand on the stove and burned her, police said.

He was arrested on Wednesday and sent to Lehigh County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail.
