Man Shot in Head After Leading Police on Chase: Cops

Two robbery suspects led police on a chase early Sunday. Investigators say one of the men was shot after turning a gun on police

A man was shot in the head early Sunday after police say he pointed a gun at an officer at North 9th Street and Hunting Park Avenue in North Philadelphia.

Detectives tell NBC10 that officers got a call about a robbery on the 100 block of West Clearfield Street. After arriving on the scene, a man told officers that two men robbed him at gunpoint and took his cellphone.

The victim was able to give police a vehicle description. Officers spotted the same car and chased the suspects. Police say the men drove into a grassy area at 9th Street and ran out of the car.

The passenger, identified as Daniel Rubio, pointed a gun at police, according to Lt. Ray Evers, who said the officer then fired off several shots, hitting Rubio in the head. He's in critical condition at Einstein Hospital.

The second suspect, Edwin Rodriguez, led police on a foot chase before being arrested.

No officers were injured.
