Man Dies Trying to Save Grandmother From Fire

Authorities say a man ran back into a burning western Pennsylvania home to try to save his grandmother, but both were killed.

Fire crews in Cambria County were called to the Revloc duplex just after 7 a.m. Friday and reported that flames had engulfed much of the structure.

Chief deputy coroner Jeffrey Leeds said at least seven people were in the home, but all but one reached safety.

Witnesses said 24-year-old Jake Lewis then re-entered the building to try to rescue 65-year-old Anna LaJudice. The bodies of both victims were later recovered.

Lees said autopsies determined that both died from toxic smoke and gas inhalation.

Revloc fire chief Greg Sloan said a state police fire marshal told him that the blaze may have been sparked by a wood burner.
