Man Convicted of 143MPH DUI

A man accused by police of having driven more than 140 miles per hour while intoxicated a year ago has been convicted of driving under the influence, reckless driving and speeding.

The (Lancaster) Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era
says 23-year-old Daniel Mentzer of Pequea argued Friday in Lancaster County that Southern Regional police had no good reason to subject him to sobriety tests.

Officer Charles Grimasuckas said he clocked Mentzer's car at 143.8 mph in Pequea Township in December 2012.

He said Mentzer had slurred speech and glassy eyes and said he didn't know how fast he was going because his speedometer only went up to 120 mph and "my needle was pinned to that point."

Mentzer denied having said that. He was sentenced to six months' probation.
